Just when the Jets' defense appeared to be peaking, the team received yet another blow to its injury-riddled roster yesterday when the NFL suspended Jason Ferguson for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Though Ferguson has been a solid citizen for his entire NFL career to date, this isn't his first brush with using illegal substances. As a collegiate player coming out of the University of Georgia in 1997, he tested positive for marijuana during pre-NFL Draft screening.

Earlier this season, when speaking about Ferguson, [Bill Parcells] praised him, saying, "It's very difficult to play our scheme if you don't have a good nose tackle. We've always had one -- Jim Burt, Erik Howard -- and I think Jason can be one of those.
