Abstract (Document Summary)

Past Market Street, along the harbor, you'll hit Front Street, which farther down is called Pilottown Road. The river pilots of old, some of whom still live in Lewes and guide ocean vessels up the bay and along the contours of the Delaware, once lived in the Victorian homes that line this stretch of road.

There is a bar and seating outside, but it was from within the restaurant that we watched Lewes' annual boat parade, while about 1,250 people - half Lewes' year-round population - gathered outside along the bridge and docks.

On Route 1 between Lewes and Rehoboth Beach you find the usual spread of outlet malls and miniature golf. Rehoboth Beach is a good place for families as it offers a mile of boardwalk and three main roads of door-to-door novelty shops and eateries.
