Abstract (Document Summary)

[Matthew Kirk] and other upperclassmen will walk two miles from campus to a cinema in Westbury "to understand the biblical narration of Jesus' last hours," said Rev. Philip Eichner, the school's president and a chairman of the board of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

Others, like Rev. Thomas Goodhue, of the Long Island Council of Churches, are more conflicted about the film. Historical accuracy is a concern for some Christians and Jews, said Goodhue. That's why his group plans to meet with the Long Island Board of Rabbis next month to discuss celebrating Passover and Easter. The General Theological Seminary, an Episcopal institution in Chelsea, and the New York chapter of the Anti-Defamation League also have planned events for next month to discuss the movie.
