- John Hildebrand WANTAGH / Schools Chief Resigns After 14 years as superintendent of Wantagh schools, George Besculides is departing to become head of American Community Schools in Athens, Greece. The latter enroll about 800 students from the United States and 49 other countries.

Besculides recently announced his decision in a letter to Wantagh residents, saying that when he heard of the vacancy in Greece, "being Greek and being a superintendent as I am, it was analogous - a Greek word) - to putting chocolate and peanut butter together." In addition to heading the 2,900-student Wantagh district, Besculides also serves as president of the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents.
