Abstract (Document Summary)

`CATWOMAN WAS a very interesting character, very fun and very difficult. Tim Burton and I approached her as a schizophrenic, somebody who was desperately trying to keep things under wraps, who was always trying to be Debbie Reynolds . . . she's oppressed, suppressed, depressed. She implodes, basically."

That's what Michelle Pfeiffer tells Buzz writer Hillary Johnson, talking about her famous performance as Michael Keaton's nemesis in 1992's "Batman Returns."

Pfeiffer also wants to get something straight. Her new movie, "Up Close and Personal" with Robert Redford, is not about the tragic life and death of Jessica Savitch: "I don't die," says Michelle. "It's a romance. Do me a big favor and say that!"
