Chris Chelios brought a sudden end to the NHL at the Pacific Coliseum when the Chicago defenseman scored in overtime for the second straight game, giving the Blackhawks a 4-3 comeback victory over the Canucks and a four-game sweep of the Western Conference semifinals.
It was the third game in the series that went to overtime. In addition to moving the Blackhawks into the conference final, it also eliminated last year's Stanley Cup finalist and marked the end of 25 seasons for the Canucks at the Coliseum.
Chelios took a pass from Denis Savard and snapped a quick shot past Kirk McLean at 5:35 of overtime for the winning goal. Jeremy Roenick forced the overtime midway through the third period by banking a shot off McLean, who was out of position.
