John Cunningham, the MTA press secretary, took time out yesterday to explain how these words weren't actually written by the MTA employees, but came instead from MTA consultants.

Yesterday morning, the mascot idea still had some supporters around MTA headquarters. But the Cardvaark boosters seemed to dwindle as the day wore on. This was evident even in the MTA marketing department, where Cardvaark's primary champions remained.

Cardvaark's last hope was Peter Stangl, the MTA chairman. Yesterday, Stangl sat through a long presentation by the MTA marketing department, where Cardvaark's last remaining supporters were huddled. By the time the presentation had ended, Stangl was back-pedaling furiously from the Cardvaark idea.
