The Mets yesterday made two more moves to bolster their postseason roster, acquiring second baseman Tommy Herr from the Phillies and catcher Charlie O'Brien from the Brewers in exchange for two minor leaguers and two players to be named.
After obtaining Pat Tabler from the Royals for minor-league pitcher Archie Corbin late Thursday, the Mets beat last night's deadline for settling postseason rosters by getting Herr from the Phillies in return for minor-leaguers Rocky Elli, a pitcher, and Nikco Riesgo, an outfielder. Then, just before gametime, they obtained O'Brien and a player to be named in exchange for two players to be named. To make room for the newcomers, outfielder Chuck Carr was returned to Double-A Jackson, Kelvin Torve was optioned to Triple-A Tidewater and catcher Alex Trevino was waived.
