He was the son of a cantor and a gifted student of Jewish musical tradition. He came to East Meadow in 1958 after serving as a Jewish chaplain during World War II and as a cantor in Montreal and in Newark and Atlantic City, N.J.
[Cantor Carus] is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ethel; two children, Marvin of Toms River, N.J., and Bernice Lite of East Meadow; two sisters, Irene Pinsky of Florida and Delie Carus of Brooklyn; and three grandchildren. A service was held yesterday at the East Meadow Jewish Center with burial in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont.
