Valerie Charnavus, 43, who came to the United States from Russia four months ago, died Tuesday at Elmhurst Hospital Center eight days after being struck with the bat during a fight in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.

A brief fistfight ensued before the two sides were broken up. Then a white car drove up, and someone in the car handed a baseball bat to one of the Hispanic men, who hit Charnavus in the head as the two sides clashed again, police said.
