Abstract (Document Summary)

Who says Al D'Amato has no friends? Dov Hikind, the allegedly Democratic assemblyman from Borough Park, has invited the Republican senator from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to headline a $200 a person fundraiser for Hikind's re-election.

Hikind is the same Democrat who endorsed Republican Rudy Giuliani against Democrat David N. Dinkins in the mayor's race, and Republican George Bush against Democrat Michael Dukakis and Republican Ronald Reagan . . . well, you get the idea.

Hikind said D'Amato's record "speaks very loudly in terms of delivering services, and I'm not talking about housing through HUD." He called D'Amato's pro-Israel record "unsurpassed." Hikind called himself "a very good Democrat but not a blind one." And he had a warning for Republicans if they think they would gain by stealing him away.
