Abstract (Document Summary)
The so-called nonpartisan Migration Policy Institute statement that immigrants "developed 'fear and mistrust of authorities' when they realized local police were acting as immigration agents," is so inane that to believe that The News-Press would even print its position statement on the editorial page belies credibility. If an "illegal" is stopped because of a traffic violation (speeding or drunken driving, etc.) and doesn't have a driver's license, is this a legitimate excuse of fear and mistrust of authority?
