The need for caution The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has estimated that nearly 1.7 million patients in the U.S. each year will develop an HAI, and that approximately 99,000 deaths are caused by, or associated with, an HAI. Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), surgical site infections associated with colon surgeries and surgical site infections associated with abdominal hysterectomies.
