Abstract (Document Summary)

MiWay is changing more than 25 routes to make them more convenient, efficient and reliable for passengers after an 18-month study helped transit officials determine where buses are running late. Since the spring of 2011, MiWay's fleet of 463 buses has been equipped with GPS technology, a computer and cameras that have been collecting ridership data. The new equipment is part of a $6 million program. By the end of September, all MiWay buses will be equipped with devices that will track the number of passengers getting on board. The new system also keeps track of how many times the bike rack and wheelchair ramps are used.
