At the time, an acquaintance of [Robert Zeszutek], Claude Chaisson, now 28, was temporarily staying in Zeszutek's apartment. He was present with the three defendants and remained in the apartment until he became involved in an altercation with Zeszutek and was told to leave, which he did. During the course of the evening a second altercation erupted in which Zeszutek was repeatedly kicked and punched by the co-accused. The three defendants left Zeszutek alive but severely injured in his apartment. Zeszutek died sometime thereafter as a result of his multiple injuries. Zeszutek had been punched, kicked, struck on his head and body with beer bottles, lamps and cans of food. The assault took place in the bedroom area as well as in the living room. As a result of the assault, Zeszutek suffered a broken nose and significant cuts to his ears and head, which led to profuse bleeding. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
