Mayor hints at hydro fight in annual Chamber address

Mayor Rick Bonnette presented his "state of the town" address to a sold-out audience of Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce members at Eagle Ridge Golf Club today.Bonnette based his speech on the Town motto, "Working Together, Working For You", outlining council and Town accomplishments in 2012. He highlighted the Integrated Community Sustainability Strategya[Euro]" a 50-year strategy developed jointly with community members, the expansions of the hospital, Georgetown library and Cultural Centre, and Mold-Masters SportsPlex.He defended council's decisions to proceed with the arena expansion project but to delay phase 2 of the Gellert Centre and Acton Seniors' Centre expansion. He said the Town would be looking at lease, buy or partnership options for future facilities.He cited the town-wide victorya[Euro]" applauded by Chamber membersa[Euro]" to eliminate the 4-3 highway option in the GTA-West Corridor Study and the building of the GO Train station in Acton.
