Barrie, Ont.
The academy will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday with a special open house. The event will feature performances from teachers and students from the academy. "We want students past and present to come out and celebrate with us," academy director [Louise Martin] said. "We want the community to come out and see what we are all about, and hear the talents of our students." Martin founded the academy by accident more than 10 years ago. "I was giving private lessons out of my home," she said. "One of my students told me she was going to have to start paying for her own lessons because her parents didn't have the money, so I had the idea to hire her to teach the younger students." That was Martin's first hire. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. Further reproduction or distribution is prohibited without permission.
