Abstract (Document Summary)

It's hard to say what the lure was that brought out nearly 300 youngsters last weekend to Scarlett's in Bethlehem for a five-band all-ages show. It could have been the animated pop-punk of headliner Digger, or maybe it was the drag-racing, swamp sleaze of Florida's Go To Hells. Most likely it was just the chance to get out and have some fun.

The crowd, made up mostly of 13- to 16-year-olds, was a flamboyant display of music-inspired fashion, a veritable MTV Mardi Gras. Along with the usual punk styles -- spiky multi-colored hair, Mohawks, plaid and leather -- there were '70s aficionados in tight polyester shirts and plastic pants, a few Mods with Beatles-style (or is that Oasis-style?) haircuts, as well as some side-burned rockabilly swingers. While each of the five bands had its admirers, it seemed for many in the audience the point of the evening was to socialize and be seen.
