BERLIN, May 31. (iP)- The Nazi luftwaffe, bent on a speedy cleanup of Crete, to- night harassed - ish forces which the high command said were fleeing from the Eastern Mediterra- nean Island, and the German army was pronounced ready

The high command said some of the imperial forces had es- caped to Gavdos island 25 miles south of Crete, and that these, along with others attempting to get away from Southern Cretan ports, were under a relentless aerial attack.

Observers saul that, with the firmly based on Crete, the Germans are in an especially favorable position to deliver smashing blows at Tobruk when- ever they choose. Crete is only
