The machine at its heart will be a superconducting linear accelerator at least 1,000 times stronger than MSU's aging cyclotrons, which will enable scientists to study a far wider range of rare and fleeting atomic nuclei and to answer fundamental questions about the structure of matter and the origin of elements.
