Abstract (Document Summary)

The Gaza Strip was yesterday ordered sealed off for three days, as police braced themselves for massive riots during today's funeral of Helena Rapp, 15, who was stabbed to death yesterday morning in Bat Yam by an Arab terrorist from a Gaza refugee camp.

Yesterday at 7:35 a.m., [Ze'ev Rapp], a second year pupil in the photography department of the Wizo School, was standing with a friend on Rehov Ben-Gurion, the city promenade, waiting for bus No. 10 to take her to school. A car with the blue license plates of the territories stopped nearby and Fuad Amran, 19, emerged brandishing a long kitchen knife he had reportedly bought on Friday.

An Israel Air Force major passing by saw the attack and fired his pistol at Amran, but missed. Another IDF officer riding on a bus also fired at the terrorist through the closed bus window and missed. The assailant began to run away chased only by an unarmed taxi driver.
