Abstract (Document Summary)

With the attention of the whole of Israel upon him, [BRODY] uttered those immortal words which have become for Israeli popular culture what Neil Armstrong's "Small step for man, giant step for mankind" meant for the space age: "Now we're on the map," said Brody, "and that's where we'll remain."

That same year, Brody was the 13th player drafted by the NBA. In today's NBA, with 27 teams, that high a pick could expect a a million-dollar salary. But back then, there were only nine teams in the NBA, so Brody was a (mere! ) second-round choice, drafted by the Baltimore Bullets.

Although tempted, Brody stuck to his decision to get an MA. During that year at Illinois, Maccabi Tel Aviv contacted him again and finally Brody decided to take "a year out of my life" and play basketball for them.
