Abstract (Document Summary)

"I never asked soldiers to break bones, and never did so myself," Lt. -Col. Ephraim Fein told the Southern Command military court yesterday.

Fein was testifying in the trial of four Givati soldiers accused of brutally beating two Palestinian detainees in the Gaza Strip in February 1988 while under his command. One of the detainees later died.

The soldiers' defence attorney showed the court a video of Fein's appearance on TV's Moked programme on February 17, 1988, in which he stated that all orders were issued clearly, even at the start of the intifada.
