Abstract (Document Summary)

[Alberstein]'s 54th album is a collection of heartbreaking miniatures about contemporary Tel Aviv characters: foreign workers, prostitutes, the newly- orthodox. The lyrics (in Hebrew) are by her husband, poet and filmmaker Nadav Levitan.

Alberstein's Yiddish-Hebrew-English album Foreign Letters, recorded in Montreal by K D Lang's producer Ben Mink, was chosen by L.A. Weekly as one of 1998's 10 best albums, and rave-reviewed by Billboard.

ALBERSTEIN'S rich alto has reverberated through Israeli living rooms for over three decades. Yediot Aharonot once named her the most important female musician in Israel's history.
