Abstract (Document Summary)

Shinui in Hebrew means change. I can think of no group here that needs a change as badly as does the political party that calls itself Shinui. Any positive parts of its social programs and political platform, and there are many of them, are simply canceled and negated by its virulent, vociferous, and vicious statements about Jewish tradition and religious Jews.

I have little brief for Shas and [Eli Yishai] on their conduct as a political party, but on the matter of Shinui and Lapid they are unfortunately dead right. The unreasoning hatred for the Jewish tradition and its practitioners has made Shinui an unworthy successor to the Bund, the Yevsektzia, and the other Jewish haters of Jews and the faith of Israel of the last century.

What is most disturbing to me is that Shinui's Web site can be used, lock, stock, and barrel, by those anti- Jewish organizations that abound in America and the rest of the world. They would not have to change a word in [Tommy Lapid]'s distorted presentation. Is Lapid aware of that? Does he realize how he and his party advance the cause of anti- Semitism in the non-Jewish world by their malicious attacks upon religious Jews and the faith of Israel? Has he learned nothing from the experience of the self-hating Jews, both of the Left and the Right, of the 20th century and of the very Holocaust of which he is a survivor?
