Abstract (Document Summary)

Lynn Livne, 49, and her daughter, Atara, 17, of Kibbutz Hanita, were killed as they were driving on the road. Ofer Kanerik, 44, of Moshav Betzet, and Yehudit Cohen, 33, of Nahariya, also died in the ambush. Capt. German Rojyakov, 25, of Kiryat Shmona, was killed when he led the charge at the terrorists. The name of the sixth victim was not released by press time.

[Shimon Peres] told his Spanish counterpart, Josep Pique, who holds the rotating European Union presidency, that Israel is looking to secure a cease-fire agreement with the Palestinians by the end of the week, prior to the arrival of US envoy Anthony Zinni. Pique called Peres to express his condolences, after the shootings near the northern border.
