Abstract (Document Summary)

National Religious Party whip Shaul Yahalom, who had filed a request to [Moshe Katsav] to pardon [Har-Shefi], praised him for overcoming the pressure from the Left. "There was no reason for the charges against Har-Shefi and certainly not for her conviction," he said.

MK Michael Kleiner (Herut) said Katsav's decision was "brave and correct." He said it was unacceptable that Har- Shefi was serving an unjust sentence, while Avishai Raviv and his operators are evading trial.

Labor-Meimad whip Effi Oshaya said it is a "pity that Katsav is acting with mercy" toward Har-Shefi. He said the decision amounts to "legitimizing violence, and if Har- Shefi had warned of Yigal Amir's intention, Rabin's murder would have been prevented and Rabin would be prime minister today."
