Abstract (Document Summary)

An IDF tank blasted a vehicle used by a three-member mortar crew at Kibbutz Kfar Aza near the Gaza border fence yesterday morning, killing two and wounding the third. The fatalities were bodyguards of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

Northern Gaza District Col. Hamada Ganem told reporters that a soldiers on operational duty in the area had spotted the mortar crew firing a shell into Israel. A tank on lookout duties spotted the crew as it approached Kfar Aza by car, and opened fire. "It is the fourth time we have hit a terrorist cell firing mortars and I believe we will continue to improve our capability in dealing with mortar threats," he added.
