Abstract (Document Summary)

Military sources also confirmed that IDF soldiers in the Gaza Strip are setting up temporary army positions on buildings in PA- controlled areas, in accordance with the immediate security need to boost the defense and security of Jewish civilians and soldiers in the area.

In Gaza yesterday, Palestinians fired three mortar shells at two Jewish communities. One landed inside Israel, near the border fence in the northern Gaza Strip, and another landed at the entrance to Netzarim, causing no injuries or damage. A third shell landed in the Gush Katif community of Netzer Hazani early yesterday evening. No one was injured, but the shell landed in the backyard of the Yifrah family's home, breaking windows and damaging the plaster on the exterior of the house. At the time, the family was visiting their son Amihai, who was among five youths wounded when a mortar shell fell next to the community's youth club several weeks ago.

A Palestinian security officer accused Israel yesterday of targeting Palestinian security bases in Jenin and Gaza on Wednesday evening, in order to pull the PA into a confrontation with Israel to avoid international pressure. He called IDF reports that the Palestinians were using the Jenin security installation to manufacture mortars "false."
