The sand in the 18-month hourglass that the Supreme Court gave the government to solve the haredi conscription conundrum is quickly running out. As the deadline approaches, Herb Keinon looks at some of the fallout from the Tal Committee recommendations

Yet the most pressing matter may very well be the Tal Committee recommendations on the conscription of yeshiva students.

On that matter, at least, Tal proved prescient. No sooner had the recommendations been made public, than Shinui and Meretz MKs called them totally unacceptable, and a new "grassroots" movement sprouted up. This group, called Awakening, held a 12-day protest vigil against the committee's conclusions in front of the prime minister's office, and has been traveling the country ever since, signing people to a petition against the recommendations.
