Abstract (Document Summary)

Eyal Berkovic yesterday risked further incurring the wrath of Celtic's supporters by hailing bitter rivals Glasgow Rangers brilliant form and admitting the title race is "as good as over."

Berkovic, who has struggled to win over Celtic's fans since his 5.75 million summer move from West Ham United, insisted that, not only are his team unlikely to claw their way back into the title chase, but that John Barnes' team do not even deserve a second chance. When asked simply for his views on Saturday's shock collapse, he caused further astonishment by admitting the title already belongs to Rangers.

As Berkovic made a rare press conference appearance he told Scottish journalists after the match: "We are all very disappointed. When I came to Celtic I thought we would win the championship. That was my ambition and why I came here. But now I am very disappointed. We have played very badly since the winter break and we don't deserve to win the title now. Maybe we'll try again next year."
