In 1948, together with Zaritzky and Avigdor Stematsky, he founded the New Horizons movement and was its premier exponent of lyric abstraction. But like Zaritzky and Stematsky, he never lost touch with the landscape (mostly as seen through his studio window). Above all, he tried to capture local light.
