ALEXANDRIA - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak told Interior Minister Arye Der'i here yesterday that the way to break the impasse over the Israeli diplomatic initiative is to include two prominent U.S. Palestinian academics in negotiations about elections and as participants in an interim settlement, The Jerusalem Post learned from reliable sources. The sources say this idea was the main point made by Mubarak at the meeting.

Der'i told Mubarak that he would forward the idea to Shamir. After the meeting, Der'i told reporters that Mubarak offered "practical ideas" to get the peace process moving, but he did not elaborate.
