[Actor Sassi Keshet] is also extremely well-versed in Yiddish literature. A voracious reader as a child, Keshet has read the works of all the great Yiddish writers in Hebrew translations.

The Tel Aviv-based Yiddishpiel theater had been trying to persuade Keshet to join for a long time, and he had been slated to appear in the Yiddishpiel production The Rothschilds many seasons ago, but the more-mainstream Gesher Theater made him a series of offers he couldn't refuse, including Satan in Moscow under the direction of the amazing Yevgeny Aryeh. So Keshet told Shmuel Atzmon, Yiddishpiel founder and director, that his Yiddish debut would have to wait. Despite the delay, Keshet says he is delighted to finally get around to the Yiddish stage.

To all those who think that Yiddish theater, like the Yiddish language, is dying, Keshet responds: "You must not come as a cynic to Yiddish theater. If you come to something that you think is passe, you will treat it as passe. But you have a whole new, young audience out there who are lapping it up. I take my hat off to Shmulik Atzmon, that he was able to create something so wonderful. It warms the cockles of the heart."
