[Sharon Fichman], a 13-year-old rising tennis star, was at center court at the new Rexall Centre in Toronto, which will host next week's Tennis Masters Canada. Fichman (pronounced "Fickman") looks like a normal teenager and isn't built anything like the modern female prototypes, such as Maria Sharapova. The next major decision for Ms. Fichman is whether to turn pro or accept a scholarship and play tennis for a college in the United States (Canadian college tennis is not a viable road to the pro ranks). Her father has been quoted as saying that the decision is entirely up to her, and that he wants her to be a well-rounded person with a balance between education and tennis. It also appears that her well-roundedness includes an affinity for her Jewishness, as Sharon plans on representing Canada on the courts during the 2005 Maccabiah.
