[Alberstein]'s 54th album is a collection of heartbreaking miniatures about contemporary Tel Aviv characters: foreign workers, prostitutes, the newly- orthodox. The lyrics (in Hebrew) are by her husband, poet and filmmaker Nadav Levitan. Alberstein's Yiddish-Hebrew-English album Foreign Letters, recorded in Montreal by K D Lang's producer Ben Mink, was chosen by L.A. Weekly as one of 1998's 10 best albums, and rave-reviewed by Billboard. ALBERSTEIN'S rich alto has reverberated through Israeli living rooms for over three decades. Yediot Aharonot once named her the most important female musician in Israel's history. Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner.
