Mahmoud Haddad, professor of Finance at UT Martin, believes people will stop spending money as food and clothing prices continue to climb and gasoline creeps closer to $4 a gallon. The rise in oil prices has pushed up production and manufacturing costs for everything from beef cattle and corn to airline tickets and clothing by 15 percent to 35 percent for most of those items, according to past prices.
