The author has never found it cost-effective to conduct high-end research with sources such as Google News, once she factors in her time. However, she had a wake-up call the other day when she learned about TaskRabbit Inc. It is similar to the freelancer site Elance, but on a local scale and available in a handful of US cities. As the author looked through research-related listings in both Elance and TaskRabbit, she noticed that they involved work with low perceived value. In order for info pros to clearly demonstrate their value, they need to address the perception issues that the freelancer sites make obvious. We have to start speaking more clearly about what is and, more importantly, what is not on the free Web.
