The LOCKSS design looks a bit like the Internet itself. Little nodes (the computers in the closets) are spread all across the world, connected to each other, with messages constantly moving from one to another. Each LOCKSS computer downloads everything contained in an issue of a subscribed journal from the publisher's site. Every few weeks, the LOCKSS computer compares the issue it has with the same issue at a random selection of other LOCKSS computers.
