National Geographic Maps: The Complete Collection is a set of CD ROMs that lets you explore the world's cultures and more, including the depths of the ocean, the surface of the moon, and even our solar system. Costing less than $20 for the collection, the CDs offer quick access to all the foldout supplement maps published with National Geographic magazine between 1888 and 2000 - that is more than 530 maps. The program is not perfect. A computer screen is not the best place to view highly detailed maps. But for entertainment and educational purposes, National Geographic Maps is a solid product at a bargain price. The main screen is a simple, icon-based interface offering access to the five main areas of the program: a map search engine, multimedia map tours, a section focusing on National Geographic milestones, another exploring general milestones in mapmaking, and Web access to the National Geographic Society's site.
