Abstract (Document Summary)
Information literacy, engaged active student learning, and inventories were some of the session topics that drew participants at the ACRL 2017 conference, held March 22-25 in Baltimore. Information Literacy on (Almost) Every Continent The Global Shape of Information Literacy: Perspectives From Around the World was moderated by Merinda Kaye Hensley (University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign) and featured 10 speakers who had been contributors to an ACRL white paper, "Global Perspectives on Information Literacy: Fostering a Dialogue for International Understanding" (acrl globalinfolit). The emerging common themes include a move toward learner-centered and constructivist teaching, the changing roles and status of librarians, and how cultures impact how librarians define, teach, and develop information literacy curricula. The regime set up after the end of apartheid hasn't helped the black majority out of poverty-they are not yet producers of knowledge, and libraries want them to be able to participate in their own democracy.
