Abstract (Document Summary)

Delivering on users' expectations is critical to gaining their trust and patronage. In February 2016, people conducted a user experience evaluation of their implementation of the discovery service Encore Duet 4.4. They wanted to determine how well it was serving patrons and librarians using the Michigan eLibrary. Was the search box we designed as the gateway to our resources providing easy access to what users wanted? First, they used industry-standard evaluation methods and made recommendations based on user input. Then they worked with the vendor, applied changes to the configuration options, and created custom JavaScript to improve our users' experience. Encore Duet searches and returns results from the catalog and all but a small handful of the databases available through MeL. Encore Duet is a joint product of Innovative Interfaces and EBSCO. EBSCO's original Encore product debuted in 2007. They were early adopters when they went live with Encore Duet in July 2014.
