Mike Weatherley, a UK member of parliament who advises British Prime Minister David Cameron on copyright and IP matters, recently made headlines after he seemed to suggest that lessons on these topics should become part of the core curriculum. This followed the recent release of his report, "Copyright Education and Awareness," which stresses the need to raise awareness of copyright and IP issues. In any case, it's unlikely any such lessons would include coverage of Indonesia's new copyright legislation. It also allows the government to block access to material on the Internet that infringes copyright law. The Vatican too is digitizing manuscripts and other artifacts as part of its Digita Vaticana project. Finally, it looks as if a crowdsourced online petition asking for changes to Finland's copyright law will be unsuccessful.
