Scanning a friend's bookshelf, Otis Chandler realized that when he wanted book recommendations, he'd rather turn to a friend than any random person or bestseller list. He and another bibliophile, Elizabeth Khuri, launched Goodreads in 2007. Today, the Web site, whose parent company is based in San Francisco, has more than 30 million members who have written more than 34 million reviews of all types of books. A few of the things you can do on Goodreads are: 1. Catalog your collection. 2. Rate and review books. 3. Create a profile. 4. Make friends. 5. Use the site's "recommendation engine." 6. Join an online book club. 7. Sign up for a book giveaway. 8. Contact an author. 9. Preview books and link to other sites to buy them. 10. Build a bigger batch.
