Throughout the fall, Copyright Clearance Center hosted a series of free webinars in partnership with the STM (International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers) Library Relations Committee. On October 1, they presented An Introduction to Altmetrics, during which three speakers discussed the ways altmetrics (alternative metrics) are being used to measure the impact of published research. They also talked about altmetrics' reliability as a measuring tool. Kristi Holmes, director of Northwestern University's Galter Health Sciences Library, used her workplace as a case study to look at possible implementations for altmetrics. Galter's goal is to translate discoveries in labs into quality clinical care in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of human health, she explained.
