As co-editor Robert Berkman describes it, "in the age of consumer-generated information, fake tweets, doctored video clips, and manipulated images originating from social networks move at least as quickly around the Internet as credible content does". Berkman takes an in-depth look at the options for separating the credible social media from the crud. He points out that as more news organizations turn to social media to report on what is trending, more fake news is gaining a foothold in mainstream media. The academic and commercial research communities are developing software products to verify the validity of digital content. Berkman tried out TweetCred, which is still in beta, to see how it works.
