There are a lot of factors in an academic library's decision to reduce the size of its collection, according to Rick Lugg, president of Sustainable Collection Services, but primary among them is the need for space. Recently, Sustainable Collection Services finished a project that spanned 34 academic libraries in Indiana. Lugg and his team were able to help the libraries across the state draw their print collections down while maintaining segments of the collections that were needed.
