Back in the Digital Dark Ages -- spring 1996 to be precise -- your Field Correspondent volunteered for a job at the San Antonio Express-News. He was the baseball writer. The biggest redeeming factor was that the best player on that team was Paul Konerko, a guy who went on to make it to the big-league All-Star game six times, hit 434 home runs in the majors, and won a World Series ring. Unlike a lot of guys in baseball, Konerko doesn't have much of an online presence. He's not on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or even Instagram. As he was back then, he is now: no foolishness and few distractions.
