Bracketed between Big Ten basketball and Indiana Comic Con, the Public Library Association's (PLA) biennial conference, held in Indianapolis Mar 11-Mar 15, 2014, drew nearly 8,000 public librarians along with a smattering of public library trustees and a large contingent of exhibitors. Having the Big Ten men's basketball tournament in town meant some librarians could only obtain hotel rooms at the airport or far north of the city. PLA added bus service to these locations to minimize the travel trauma. One theme from PLA was the vision of libraries as places where problems are solved. Not only is problem-solving part of serving diverse populations, but it is also about solving the libraries' own problems. The lively exhibit hall, with 400-plus booths, offered librarians opportunities to investigate print books, electronic resources, discovery systems, digitization technologies, and furniture.
