AIIP (Association of Independent Information Professionals) held its annual conference Apr 2, 2014-Apr 6, 2014, in Baltimore, aka Chami City. As with most AIIP conferences, the emphasis was more on running an information business than on gaining the necessary skills to do research. Several vendor preconference sessions, from the American Psychological Association; LexisNexis; Statista Inc; and Hoover's, effectively updated AIIP members on new developments and the effective use of search tools for these information sources. Lee Rainie, director of the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, delivered the Roger Summit Award Lecture in which he described three revolutions in technology. Meanwhile, marketing is of prime interest to independent information professionals. Moreover, several sessions featured advice from AIIP members.
